The
use of new steel roofing on older buildings is keeping pace with its
popularity for new homes in many areas, according to a roofing company
executive.
Magnum Roofing managing director Jamie Winder said his company
had noticed a growing tendency for councils to insist on the use
of steel for roofing on houses that have heritage orders placed
on them.
Magnum Roofing in Raymond Terrace near Newcastle in New South Wales
has five roofing installation teams fitting roofing made from steel
on both heritage homes and a wide range of architecturally designed
homes.
Mr Winder said roofing made from ZINCLUME steel and COLORBOND® steel
had generated strong demand in recent months due to its ability
to complement heritage buildings.
"Architects are also specifying ZINCALUME steel as a residential
cladding material to achieve aesthetically-pleasing and practical
roofing and walling solutions," he said.
"On classic heritage buildings where the roofs are prominent
we are finding more and more councils are insisting on the use of
roofing made from ZINCALUME® steel because of the way the steel
complements these homes," he said.
"Many modern colonial style brick homes are also using roofs
made from ZINCALUME® steel because of its rugged aesthetic appeal."
Mr Winder said ZINCALUME® steel made by BHP Steel had the inherent
style, strength and durability to suit a wide range of home design
requirements.
Mr Winder recently won $1000 worth of hardware goods in the ZINCALUME®
steel 'Don't Cut Corners Competition'. He won the prize for purchasing
ZINCALUME® steel for an architect-designed home in Newcastle.
Registered builders, roofers, plumbers or building industry people
who buy more than 500 square metres of ZINCALUME® steel can
enter the monthly draws that run until March 31.
All entries received up until March 31 are entered into the competition
to win three Toyota HiLux 4X2 Workmate vehicles drawn on April 4.
