A
five unit redevelopment at Elermore Vale, near Newcastle, features
roofing made from COLORBOND® steel. The redevelopment captured
awards in the Master Builders Excellence in Building Awards 2002 for
Medium Density Developments Under AU$3 million and the judges' award
for Energy Efficiency.
Rainwater tanks made from AQUAPLATE® steel recycle water for the
garden, laundry and the toilet. The development also features roofing
and garage doors made from COLORBOND® steel in the colours Slate
Grey and Heritage Red.
ZINCALUME® steel has been used to create feature walls in the
units and is part of the energy efficient design approach to provide
maximum winter sun and summer sun protection for the redevelopment.
The units were built by Analogic Construct at Wallsend.
The Newcastle Master Builders Excellence in Building Awards 2002
are recognised as the peak building industry awards in Newcastle,
Hunter Valley, Central Coast and Port Stephens. Steel roofing features
on more than half of the 26 major award winning projects in the
Newcastle Master Builders 2002 Excellence in Building Awards.
Newcastle MBA President, Peter Millington, said the awards recognise
outstanding skills, workmanship and high technical standards on
residential, industrial and commercial projects.
"The judges this year carried out inspections on more than
80 projects and the winners exemplify the highest standards of worksmanship
and technical standards this region has to offer," he said.
A merit award in the Energy Efficiency category also went to McKenzie
Building and Construction for the new East Maitland Fire Station,
a AU$1.5 million cocoon shaped building also clad in COLORBOND®
steel.
A sport and recreation facility on Milson Island in the Hawkesbury
River also captured multiple awards, including Commercial Project
of the Year for its builder, Parkwood Manufactured Homes.
The project featuring roofing and walling made from COLORBOND®
steel in the colour Mountain Blue also received awards for Commercial
Project Under AU$3 million and Environmentally Sustainable Development.
The AU$1.3 million facility is comprised entirely of manufactured
units, prefabricated off site by Parkwood Homes at West Gosford
and transported to the island by barge, with all buildings constructed
in just five days.
The specification of COLORBOND® steel for roofing and walling
was also influenced by a requirement for the buildings to be resistant
to fire, corrosion, termites and to be robust enough to be relocated
or recycled with minimum effort.
The MBA judges commended Parkwood Homes on the innovation and design
excellence evident in all aspects of the modular accommodation units.
