A boutique custom-builder on South Australia ' s south-east coast has won a series of major industry awards.

South Coast Constructions took out four awards - two each from the Housing Industry Association (HIA) and the Master Builders Association (MBA) - during 2002.

The Victor Harbor-based builder won the HIA Contract Home up to $175,000 and received a commendation in the Country Builder of the Year category. It also won the MBA Best Custom Built Home in the $200,000 to $350,000 category and Best Custom-built Home up to $200,000.

South Coast Constructions ' Allan Davis said the south coast provided a challenge for builders, with many homes built on hillside and cliff-top sites.

" There is a need in this area to provide specific solutions for individual sites, " Mr Davis said.

" Rather than build one standard home for every site, we assist from the design phase right through to ensure it meets our clients ' needs - whether that is to capture the views, feature big open areas or have large balconies. "

The majority of these designs feature roofs made from COLORBOND® steel because of its lightweight construction and aesthetically pleasing appearance.

The winning feeling has continued into 2003 for Allan Davis, who has just been named winner of the major prize in the second phase of the COLORBOND® steel " Make the Right Choice and Win " competition.

Allan won an $8000 home entertainment package from BHP Steel by using roofing made from COLORBOND® steel on a home in Victor Harbor.

The entertainment package includes a widescreen TV, DVD video player, Dolby digital receiver, satellite speakers and speaker stands and a music voucher.

Builders across Australia can register to be part of the COLORBOND® steel " Make the Right Choice and Win " competition by filling out the official participating builder form.

South Coast Construction also won the minor prize in South Australia - a Panasonic digital movie camera - for another home it built featuring a COLORBOND® steel roof for a client in Port Elliot

The builders ' prizes are linked to consumer prizes. New home buyers who choose building products made from COLORBOND® steel - including fencing, fascia and gutters, or building frames made from ZINCALUME steel - receive additional entries into the competition.*

The competition is now into its third and final phase, which ends on June 30. At the end of the phase, both a consumer and builder in South Australia will win an entertainment package.
