Homeowners along Queensland ' s Sunshine Coast are increasingly turning to higher quality building materials to withstand the climatic challenges of the coastal environment.

Demand for homes in the area within sight of breaking surf and the growth in popularity of building next to man-made canal systems has encouraged many homeowners to consider materials that offer exceptional durability.

Architects, builders and homeowners are increasingly turning to COLORBOND® Ultra steel for both new homes and the re-roofing of older homes throughout the Sunshine Coast, according to building industry personnel.

Wayne Joyce of local roofing contractor Sunshine Coast Roofing, which specialises in roofing architecturally-designed homes, said COLORBOND® Ultra steel was increasingly in demand.

" A large percentage of the development in the Sunshine Coast region is the along the coastline itself, " Mr Joyce said.

" COLORBOND® Ultra steel offers homeowners who are building in more demanding locations the confidence of a good looking roofing material with exceptional durability. "

Part of BHP Steel ' s Premium Product range, COLORBOND® Ultra steel has been developed specifically to withstand harsh coastal environments.

A unique combination of protective coatings helps make COLORBOND® Ultra steel one of the most cost effective, corrosion-resistant cladding materials available.

It is designed to resist the corrosive effects of salt spray and industrial emissions and is recommended for homes located 100 to 200 metres from breaking surf.

Sunshine Coast Roofing has used COLORBOND® Ultra steel on a number of homes, including on a Shelley Beach home built by local builder Peter Curley Constructions.

Peter Curley uses COLORBOND® Ultra steel on all the homes he builds close to the surf.

The Shelley Beach home features sweeping ocean views and sits just 100 metres from the surf.

The four-bedroom, three-bathroom, two-storey house used over 370 square metres of COLORBOND® Ultra steel in the colour Surfmist.
