Steel the Way to go in The Hunter

Style, durability and termite resisitance are the main reasons why Mark and Michelle Newton chose a roof made from COLORBOND® steel and building frame made from ZINCALUME steel for their McDonald Jones home at Wattle Ponds near Singleton.

Steel is becoming an increasingly popular housing option in the Hunter region, with many new home buyers choosing steel roofing and building frames from prestige builder McDonald Jones Homes.

The opening in early 2003 of the first McDonald Jones display home featuring building frames made from ZINCALUME steel and a roof made from COLORBOND® steel in the colour Woodland Grey has created unprecedented interest in steel building technology in the region.

McDonald Jones Homes will provide steel building frames made from ZINCALUME steel and roofing made from COLORBOND® steel at the same price as conventional timber framing and tile roofing.

The only additional cost is for an Anticon Blanket or sarking beneath the steel roof.

Customers taking up the steel option are convinced of the long-term benefits of the affordably priced combination of a steel structure and a quality roof made from COLORBOND® steel.

Home owner Mr Colin Waterman says he appreciates the benefits of steel in his new McDonald Jones home at Valentine.

" There are no white-ant problems for a start, and of course steel is non-combustible, " said Mr Waterman.

" Steel building frames are a tremendous innovation for their structural strength and straightness, and it was the fact that this home features a steel frame that actually convinced us to buy it.

" We find the look of the roof made from COLORBOND® steel very appealing and we couldn ' t be happier with the excellent job overall that McDonald Jones have made with our home. "

For Mark and Michelle Newton, termite resistance was the main reason for choosing a steel frame for the structure of their new McDonald Jones home at Wattle Ponds near Singleton.

" This area is recognised as being termite prone and the choice of steel building frames offered us much greater peace of mind, " said Mr Newton.

" Initially we were considering using a combination of steel wall frames and timber roof trusses, but McDonald Jones was able to offer us steel roof trusses for the same price as timber - and we ' re now very glad we opted for steel throughout.

" To top off our new home we also chose a roof made from COLORBOND® steel in the colour Wilderness because both Michelle and I prefer its style and durability. "

Andrew Helmers, director of McDonald Jones Homes, said the introduction of steel as an option for new home buyers was made possible by the local production of steel wall frames and trusses by Steel Building Systems International at Raymond Terrace.

" The steel building frame is provided with a 50-year warranty* backed by BHP Steel - and its inherent strength eliminates shrinking, warping, splitting and twisting, " Mr Helmers said.

" And our customers also appreciate the practical benefits, good looks and design flexibility of a roof made from COLORBOND® steel. "
