Innovative Steel Framing and International Success
10th February 2003

Local steel framing specialist Steel Building Systems (SBS) International is using its expertise to capitalise on the increasing popularity of steel framing in Australian and export markets.

Steel framing is becoming increasingly popular, especially in South Australia, where homeowners have been quick to realise its benefits.

In recent months SBS International has moved its South Australian headquarters to a larger facility in Elizabeth and broken into the New South Wales market by establishing a new factory in Newcastle.

Through its patented steel framing system, SBS International is at the leading edge of steel framing manufacturing, offering a safer, stronger solution for the residential and commercial markets.

The company has developed an innovative steel framing system made from ZINCALUME® steel and holds worldwide patents over its truss profile, roof connections and tie down brackets.

BHP Steel has developed ZINCALUME® steel for Australia's unique climate. It is termite resistant, won't warp or bend, and requires minimal maintenance.

SBS International has responded to demand abroad by selling five of its steel framing machines to the Construction Industry Development Board (CIBD) of Malaysia for each of its training centres.

It has also sold machines to Ireland and manufactures steel framing for the UK market.

The patented precision-engineered framing solution offers a range of benefits for builders, sub contractors and homeowners.

It reduces erection time, cuts wastage, minimises maintenance, reduces difficulties for electricians and plumbers, and is environmentally friendly.

According to manager Kevin Weeks, the company is currently manufacturing and erecting steel framing on 40 houses per week.

"The extensive benefits of steel framing have become more widely recognised in recent years," Mr Weeks said.

"Since moving into steel framing in 1995, we have progressed from building 85 to 90 homes a year to an expected 600 this year alone."
